Checkout counters are designed and built with or without a conveyor belt. Non-conveyor checkout counter lengths are 1.20, 1.50, 1.80, and 2 m; supermarket checkout counters with a conveyor range from 2 to 3.50 m. A collection tray is fitted at the end of each counter so customers’ goods can be gathered easily after checkout. On non-conveyor models, the product path is stainless steel sheet to minimize friction and allow smooth movement; on conveyor models, the collection tray at the end is stainless steel so it guides products to the end of the lane after scanning and is quick to clean at the end of the day.
Conveyor movement on checkout counters is controlled by an electronic eye or a foot pedal. The pedal is operated by the cashier at the checkout counter; the electronic eye operates automatically and is sensitive to product movement along the path.
The number and dimensions of checkout counters vary according to store size and customer throughput. The perimeter of each counter is built from an aluminum frame, and plastic bumpers protect the unit from impacts caused by shopping trolleys. All counters are finished with electrostatic oven-baked powder coating; color can be changed per customer order.
